- Main Entree
The national dish of Hungary is a stew called Goulash. This is a hearty stew flavored with paprika, marjoram, caraway seeds and garlic. Three cups of onions just seem to melt into the delicious gravy. This would be wonderful anytime but particularly on a cold winter’s night.
A lower sodium version of this recipe can be made by using low-sodium tomato paste and low sodium bouillon granules.
Heat oil in a 4-quart saucepan or Dutch oven over medium heat until hot. Add onion; cook until golden brown.
Add beef, tomato paste, and paprika; cook about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
